Our history tour starts at the Serranos Gate (Porta dels Serrans). It is one of the twelve gates which formed the ancient city wall. Declared of Historical and Artistic Interest, the monument is a magnificent example of Gothic architecture. Thanks to its location, you can see from its terraces one of the best panoramic views of the city.
After visiting the Serranos Gate, you will walk through the charming Plaza de la Virgen, an ancient little square of Old Valencia, that dates back to the Roman times. It is the heart of the city with a large fountain which represents Turia River.
Then we will continue the history tour in the City Hall square, one of the most important and central squares of the city of Valencia. It has plenty of workshops, concerts and activities to offer.
Our Valencia Old Town tour continues with a visit of the modernist Central Market building. It’s the perfect spot to try traditional Spanish and Valencian food like paella, jamón, horchata and many other delicious specialties.
Near to the Central Market, you will find the Silk Exchange Market, a beautiful example of Valencian Gothic architecture. It is one the most important heritage of UNESCO in the city. The uniqueness of this place is undoubtful.
The next stop of your Valencia history tour will be the Carmen quarter. In the past, El Carmen was the residential area of the nobility. Nowadays, it is one of the favorite quarters for many Valencians and the most popular place to hang out. El Carmen is full of bars, restaurants, markets and shops.
